The New-ness of it all!

When my 6 year old son was just an infant, I helped a friend open a scrapbooking store. I helped un-pack and un-load and move things around the store. But I didn't "own" it. In fact I even took credit for helping it get started. As I work to get this boutique up and ready, I am quickly realizing I did NOTHING for the scrapbook store. I had NO idea, NONE! Having this boutique is best compared to having a baby. Let me explain - At first you are so excited with the idea and things just seem to be "falling in to place" and then you get smacked in the head with a 2 year old that is going through terrible two's (and terrible three's at the same time) and another one on the way, wondering to yourself what the heck am I doing. (Just in the sense of how overwhelming that can be. No I am not expecting any more little ones :)

Tonight I am bar coding. Yes this is actually a job someone must do. So the next time you are in any store and you see the 100's if not 1000's of barcodes, let me explain the appreciation you should have for the person who had to put all those little boogers there. Pick an item in the store... Do you have more then one? Nope just one item, well then that item gets it's very own code. You have to put the item in the computer - Name of the Department - Name of the Vendor - Name of the Item- How many on hand?- How much? Tax Exempt? and then that silly little UPC code! Now the UPC code is another little trick they dont just come printed on a nice little sheet with millions to choose from, oh no you have to create those too. Using a bar code generator you create the UPC then copy and paste it in to a word doc, lables preferably, then print , code and place neatly in the store. Now that doesn't sound so bad, unless you have over 1000 items in the store! Most of them are unique one of a kind you you must put each one individually! And this is only day 30 ...
